Those suck.. But if you really want one, you can get them for like 1/3 of the price on Ioffer.com and such.

bm 51 or bm62

Im sorry if this has been asked before but I am saving up for a new balisong because the cheap one I was using finaly broke. Today I went to the knife store and sampled both the bm51 and the bm62, the difference between flipping those and the cheapie shocked me I can only explain it by saying that it felt more right. I happened to like them both for different reasons. They both had a smooth action unlike the previous cheapie I owned, my only concern is would the 51's g10 handles wear out alfter extended use? While flipping I was more atracted to the 51 but liked the 62 due to the steel handles even though they seemed bulk in size. Weight dose not affect my judgement I just do not know much about the quality of the handle material. What knife would you get? And what makes that knife better?

If you want to get serious with flipping get the 51 is you want a knife that doesn't flip very good but looks really cool get the 62.

Re: Which for first Bali a B-400 or Kimura ?

For a first bali I would get the Kimura because it is heavier and you want to learn with a heavy balisong. You also want a durable balisong and since it is your first bali you are going to be dropping it a lot and the kimuras quality is way better.

It doesn't matter what weight you learn with. I learned with a very, only slightly heavier than the 51 (if even that) bali. Then a heavy one. Then a mid one. Then 42. Then 51. Then spyderfly. Now basilisk/42. The point is, learn with whatever makes you comfortable.

Dude.. Where are you buying your knives? A brand new 51 is around 180-190, and a brand new 62 is about 220 on bladehq.. Shop around before you buy, don't buy direct from the Benchmade site.. You will always find them cheaper on a retailer site.

Haha Well yeah I know. I got my 51 for $180.00. I'm just speaking from a pure Benchmade standpoint as this thread is about two Benchmade balis. Anyone is going to buy from a retailer, but based on the listed price, you'll know the 62 is going to be more expensive virtually anywhere you buy it. I'm not a complete moron when it comes to buying knives. ;)

If u dont care about which one is more forgiving or has lesser cuts is the 51 still better for flipping? I have only flipped cheapies so I dont know much about quality.

It just depends on what u prefer. They are both quality knives so the main difference is the weight. The 51 is nice for aerials and twirls because of its light weight; the 62 carries more momentum and stability for rollovers. The 51 is also faster so it requires quicker hands. I have both, and I find myself flipping the 51 more than the 62. Its probably a better "all around flipper." If you get the 62, stock up on baindaids. It's heavy, and comes from the factory a lot sharper than the 51. I think my 62 is sharper than my kimura.
