Benchmade 51 Loctite..

Got the knife a couple of days ago and applied loctite on the pivot screws, let it dry for like 36 hours BUT after i flipped it again i saw the screws come loose again, so i wondered and, took the screws back out and saw that the loctite was barely there, i mean i propably used more than recommended but the screws came out easily without any force :?:

I used loctite 243 because it's the only one i can get here, but there is no effect.

Hope you guys can help!

Re: Benchmade 51 Loctite..

You might need to find 242 somehow. From what I gathered loctite 243 is for parts that may have some lubricant on them and 242 is for clean parts. Not sure how much that affects it but with blue 242 you really can't go wrong.

clean out the insides of your pivots with a solvent, if there is anything at all in there the loctite wont set.

I've used rubbing alcohol in the past, not sure if it's the best, but it sure did a good job at removing even leftover loctite and other things.

Ok thank you all, after i used loctite and let it dry, should i close the latch or leave it open? is there pressure on it when the latch is closed and is this good or should i just leave it open?

Re: Benchmade 51 Loctite..

I think leaving it open might be best, just to be sure it sets in properly

Re: Benchmade 51 Loctite..

After trying it again, i cleaned the screws with rubbing alcohol, applying a small amount of loctite 243 and waiting for 24 hours it was the same result like the last time: it seems the loctite almost disappeared :?

now i think there is something wrong with loctite 243

edit: i try it one more time, this time i shaked the bottle, it seems the blue is getting darker, waiting another 24 hours

Good luck, when it does work you won't ever have to do this again unless one day you feel like disassembling the knife, so it's worth the pay off.

Re: Benchmade 51 Loctite..

Update: On one handle it worked perfectly, i am not able to unscrew it, on the other one the loctite was still liquid, i cleaned it and loctited the loose one again, now i let it rest. i think my problem was that i have not shaken the bottle the first time i used it

Update 2: Now it works perfectly, the screws on the pivots are tight as hell. SHAKE it before use ;)
