think so far outside the box that there is no box any longer.

no one 4 years ago would have imagined the shit ppl pull off now... think about that and be always on the edge of the envelope.

Well said.

And, after finally mastering that trick you've been practicing for many moons, move it over one or two fingers.
i.e. Instead of chaplining on your middle and trnsfering the flip to your index, use your ring and middle instead.

Go crazy, some of the best things one will EVER come up with will be out of pure accident.

Re: Tips & Secrets

This is one I am learning from personal experience...flip some junk for a while. And flip it alot. I've posted the only balisong I have in my house that I can find at the moment in another thread here, it is craptastic! Looks like a jaguar, but made even worse. That said, the balance is all kinds of fucked up wrong, and you learn to adjust to where the knife is going, not just where it should be. I have yet to pull off anything like an aerial, but I am getting closer. I don't know if chaplins can be done, as soon as the thing gets enough momentum to spin properly it flies off....but I'm still pluggin away.

Work with what you got, and has been mentioned before, practice!
Could be worse...I could be on the short bus with the other donut punchers.
Well dingalingong my dangalonglinglong.

Re: Tips & Secrets

(This may be the most useful thread in all of existence  Thank you for making it!)

TIP: Be ambidextrous fool! The second you learn a move in your dominate hand switch it up and try to be just as fluid in your weak hand. It helps to do this when you start because relearning anything in your weak hand after becoming really proficient in you dominate hand can be hard and frustrating.

Re: Tips & Secrets

kind of obvious ones but:
big gaudy jewlery (ie. class rings and the such) get in the way, take em off
keep the bandaid box open
wear shoes for christ sake... (found this one out the hard way...)
a little competition never hurt anyone
just cuz it's taped don't mean it can't cut
and as said before, get some cahunas, gonads, man up and try it, if you never try you'll never get there

just some tips i've learned in the past month or so i've been flipping

Re: Tips & Secrets

New kid on the block admittedly, but I figure I'll add my own two cents.
May seem common sense and it might depend on where you live but, don't flip shirtless. I learned that the hard way. On the plus side, it does give you a neat scar. And you can lie and say you got in a knife fight if you really want to.

What can I say? I like to live life on the edge. Some people tell me to slow down, but I'm living life in the fast lane.

Re: Tips & Secrets

Here's a tip I kind of learned during FATOC. When you're filming and trying to catch a trick/combo
on camera; If you land it, don't stop filming right away. You may be on a hot streak and can land it
again or execute it even more proficiently.

Sometimes I make the mistake of landing the trick and then rushing to the camera to watch what I did.
Now if I land it I keep going cause I've caught a rhythm and flow and feel for the trick/combo and there's
a good chance I pull it off again but with more proficiency. Plus, doing a trick twice in a row (or more)
is always better than just once.

Re: Tips & Secrets

i think the same thing would apply for if you mess up, try it again, it'll help you focus, plus you can always look at what you did wrong later...

I've worn this ring on my right-hand middle finger for years and years. One of those sentimental things, eh? If I take it off because I think it's getting in the way of my flipping, my hand seems COMPLETELY off balance. Weird.

TIP: just because you dont consider yourself very good, your always better than someone. dont lose confidence in yourself becauseif you believe you suck you probably will suck. That being said, dont get too cocky either.

Tip: If my fingers are already loosened up from just starting to flip for the first time in a day, but still want to practice, there's something I like to do. Find some lotion(we all have some for something or other....), and put a generous amount in your hand. Try flipping. MFer will probably fly outta your hands first time you try this. Learn how to control it when your hands are slippery. It will do wonders for your overall control and fluidity. Take it from me.

Everyone should try this. If you havent already go for it. its quite a trip imo.

Re: Tips & Secrets

This is probably going to apply to so little people that its mostly insignificant but ill put it up anyways

For you cubers out there cubing is a great way to up finger strength. Even better with a tough cube.
