At What Age Did You Start Flipping?

I'm sure all the Newbie have seen the quality of some of the flippers on this site. It can appear overwhelming, but I'm curious as to HOW LONG you've been flipping and when you started. I noticed there are a few younger flippers out there that blow my mind when I see them. Were you self taught, or did you learn from someone?

Basically, how did you get started, and how long has it been?

had them around forever like since I was 13 (I am 34 now) mostly flea market crap. Then I found one hanging around the house about 4 or 5 years ago and started messing around nothing fancy, then just as my videos denote on my youtube account I got more serious about flipping in 2006 when looked it up online saw some tricks and just went for it.

awhile back I broke both my hands, flipping helped them get some what strong again... and now I am ambidextirous


I am happy I can even flip after my hands got busted, though admittedly I have fingers that dont really work on my right hand so I have some obstacles with some tricks, then I discovered I could do some relatively complicated or imaginative aerials injuries not withstanding and ... well the rest is history.

I'm 29 and started I guess 5 months back or so. Always wanted to get
into balisongs but for whatever reason just never did until the Kimura
came out. Wasn't willing to buy something cheap and wasn't willing to
spend near $200 bucks for a BM42. Now I have 6 balis one of them
being a custom (and a baliyo if that counts).

As far as learning I can't say I was self taught. I learned everything off
youtube tutorials and vids. Mainly from Cutlerylover and Aztekia and
some from brokenhorn90. Great resources.

Im 20 years old, i bought my first bali early February of this year. I didn't really learn any tricks (besides like a basic opening/closeing) until i found this site in March. At that point i became what some would call obsessed. I gave away my first bali (a cheapo) to a friend who i got interested. Its still kickin too. I myself now have 6 balisongs: a jaguar classic, BM-42, Tsunami, Kimura, BM 32, and most recently an M Tech. Watch your wallet, it is an expensive hobby.

I was 18 when i got into bali's when my friend first showed me his ccc that was 100% stripped out and falling apart, he let me have it cause it was useless to him so i took it home and tapped the handles together so the would not seperate. i flipped that for a night and learned every move by cutlerylover and other beginner moves on the tube. after looking around i bought a typhoon twister that was a lemon cause it came with a bum screw. i stopped for a couple months till i was in a gas station and happened to see another bali in the knife case. knowing their "conditions" i bought the knife and flipped the crap out of it till the safe handle almost broke in half. after that i got a m-tech twist, tsunami m that im customizing a bm42, another bm42 in the mail for my girlfriend (at first i got her a rainbow ccc but she likes my 42 too much ) and a bm46 in the works in all ive maybe been flipping for maybe 6 weeks and im not stopping yet

I started flipping when I saw 14, I'm 15 now.

Because I've been through alot of CCC's and they broke, I've had alot of balisong-less periods and so I've been IN the hobby for about a 15 months, but I've technically FLIPPED for less than a year.

And being in "The Return" generation of flipping I didn't teach myself everything, I used to look up tutorials on balisongxtreme, balisonginfo, youtube etc. and try to learn all the stuff I could; the rest is just experimental shit

Yeah I promised pics and a review on some of them. Gotta get around to it.
The custom is a Pandayan Tanto. It's nice, been wanting to do a review on it
with video. Hopefully will get some time soon to do it. I think it would be nice
to give some less common balis some exposure.

i started a few months ago. i think in march. i heard about this "shady vender" at a flea market that had balisongs (all ccc's) and didnt ask if you were 18. im 17. (except now he's starting to ask some peopel if there 18. think his wife has been yelling at him for it. still dont ask for id though ) so one day me and my brother went down and bought 1 each and have been hooked since. we learn using youtube and balisonginfo. the rest is just screwing around til your better.

I started when I was 16.. shortly before I turned 17 (like a few days). 18 now. And I'm self taught. I've gotten a few friends into it a bit.. but I'm still the best person I actually know in real life.. kinda sucks since at times I wish I could practice with someone and get some new tricks down and things.. oh well.

learned the double roll out opening when i was like 13 or 14. started actually flipping a year ago. im 28 in a month

I started when I was 18, with a herbertz balisong, a cheapy you find pretty easy in europe(it still lives, for my very first vids I used it). learned the basics from my brother. then I found culterylover's and others' tutorials and started to flip. I'm 19 now

I started flipping a few days before I turned 17 which was just during July so I've been flipping about 3 weeks or so and I've learned pretty much everything I know except for experimental stuff off of youtube.

Ive been flipping since I was 13 and its over a year now, so im 14. Im one of the youngest ones here wich is weird because it kinda seems like a kids hobby to me.

I don't see this as a Young Kids Hobby at all... So Many of Us it's a Return to Something we did as Kid... I Started back in 1985 when I was just 13 Years Old (37 Now) mostly Older Jag's and Such... I got out of it for a Long time... Jusr Recently got Back in... Most Recently I had an Mtech Twister and wore it out in afew Months... I'm thinking I'll pick up a Good Quality Trainer since I have no Use for a Bali as a Knife... Maybe a Benchmade Trainer... I have a GunSite (5 inch Model) for EveryDay Use and Carry...

You can get into this as Kid but it's Costly... So it Helps to be Older with some Decent Income...
