Cleaning and installing PB washers in your BM 4x Series

Image
here are the things you will be needing from left to right,
A vice,
A peice of wood with a hole big enough for the pivots to fall into,
Some kind of knife cleaner, i use blue lube as you can see it works fine,
Q-tips, (pipe cleaners work better)
PB washers
A center Punch, (the best center punch is a small nail with the tip filed flat so it doesnt poke through the pivots)
The right tool that unscrews the screws,
The Knife (duh)

Image
The first thing you will be doing is unscrewing the knife as need in the picture above.

Image
Next you will be putting the piece of wood behind the knife and the center punch in the pivots,
once everything is aligned right tighten the the vice.
The pivots will then pop out, flip the knife over and repeat the process.

this is what it will look like when you are done,
Image

Image
This is were the cleaner comes in,
Use the Q-tip and the cleaner to get all the dirt off of the hard to reach places when the knife is intact, like where the washers go for instance if you noticed all of that dirt.

Image
When you are done with that you will be putting the handles in the right spots that they go in and slide the washers in between the blade and the handle on each side. Flip the knife over carefully and repeat the process.

Image
The next step is to slide the pivots in as far as they will go.

Image
You will now be using the vice to press the pins back in, to do this you will just simply place the knife on the vice and simply tighten the vice untill the pivots are pressed in.

Image
The final step will be to tighten the screws in and you are ready to flip again!!
Warning!!
Doing this will void your warranty

what thickness of washers did you use? Did you have to sand them down? How much play does it have now?

Re: Cleaning and installing PB washers in your BM 4x Series

heres the ones that i was suggested,
http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/product_i ... cts_id=493

and i put them in first just to see if the would be good without filing them down and the worked fine so i just kept it like that..

it did reduce a good amount of play, but i do like my bali with a little more play than usual

Can you make a review on the knife's flippability before and after the customisation?

Re: Cleaning and installing PB washers in your BM 4x Series

Good little tut..... I like to use washers that are too thick by a small margin, and sand them on a piece of glass with 600 grit sandpaper on it. It usually sands the tip of my finger off (at least where the skin goes through the hole in the washer), but the reduction of play, and the smoothness are well worth the minor discomfort.

I recommend it to anyone who feels COMFORTABLE doing it, because if you dont, you'll fuck it all up....

This is a great tutorial. Whenever I'm finally able to get a 42, I'll be sure to use this whenever i do cleaning and if i have to change the washers. Thanks Fke.

Re: Cleaning and installing PB washers in your BM 4x Series

I actually used this when I had some free time during the Christmas holidays. Referenced this thread and the one at BF. And I LOVE the PB washers
