Benchmade 51 Problems

Im trying to put my Benchmade 51 through some deep cleaning. However when i take the pivot screws out i cant seem to remove the female part on the opposite side. They are well placed and i dont want to break anything by using a punch. any suggestions?

Re: Benchmade 51 Problems

They're press fit. You have to use some force to get them out... but don't do it fast, you may break the G10. I would leave it there and just clean around it. That's what I do. Otherwise, you'll need a vise and/or be very careful. Shouldn't be too tough though. Good luck.

Leave them in for real. The 42 is the same way. I did indeed damage one punching it out. Now its in Oregon getting warranty work.

Re: Benchmade 51 Problems

I am actually now having what appears to be rust spots. They are grayish brown spots that are popping up on the tip of the blade and on the tang area. I apply oil once a week. Any suggestions?

Re: Benchmade 51 Problems

Sorry dude... it's D2. Mine constantly has rust forming on it. It's super annoying, but a price to pay for that wicked edge it can keep.... Anyway, I acetone or methanol it before I oil it to get the rust off. I figure once a week should be plenty. If it gets bad, you may need to buff it with a little steel wool or something like that. Oh, and keep your fingers off of the blade. Oils in your hands are troublesome and start oxidizing metals... ie: rust.

WD40 kicks rust off any metal I've ever seen/used (including D2)... spay some one, wait a bit, wipe it off. no more rust
