Alright, so I ordered a BM 51 finally off of GPKnives and it should be coming in pretty soon. I know I need some blue loctite, but it there anything else I need to maintain my bali? Im a beginner when it comes to higher-end production bali's...and by that I mean anything besides a CCC :\

Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
Maybe some oil for the pivots. I oil mine about every 2-3 weeks... although I haven't been using it much recently.
D2 is prone to rust, depending on your climate, so oiling the blade every now and again also wouldn't hurt.
Also, make sure you loctite all the screws and not just the pivots and you should be good to go.

What type of oil would you reccomend to use for the blade/pivots?

Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
I don't think it really matters to be honest.
I use bike chain oil that I had left over from mountain biking that works fine for me. I've heard good things about Militech. I think quite a few people recommend it.

I use 3 in one oil. Works fine and I thinks it smells better than most oils.
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
I also use 3 in 1, no rust or wear as of yet. I use graphite on the pivots though.
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
Mineral oil works great
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
I guess this maybe off the subject, but for the people that own BM 51 do you guys think the T-Latch will ever wear out? I recently got one but I don't feel like locking it over night if it's bound to not be tight anymore. I have read in another forum that it's unlikely that it will ever wear out because it uses the titanium liners for support. If anyone could support that theory or deny it please tell me.

I can say it won't wear out in 2 years. If it does ever wear out in any way benchmade will fix it up for ya.
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
Oh I see, thanks for the reply, but I live in a state where it's illegal to have a Balisong, will Benchmade still help me?

Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
Im sure they would send you screws and such.....might have an issue with sending entire knife back and forth
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
I think hes right. If your military personnel or police there will be no problem sending knives, but if your just a civilian I would just ask for parts. I'm luck enough to live 45 minutes away from bechmade in a state where its legal to do anything with bali's 'cept carry them concealed.
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
Oh, I see thanks for the help, if anything I'll send it to you and have you fix it, of course with a profit of your own.

Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
I wouldn't charge you anything other than shipping.
Re: BM 51 Beginner Maintenance
That would be sweet, I would consider myself stealing, so I would definitely pay you something, anyway thats off subject.
