Kimura II Pocket Clip

It's not done yet. Still need to tighten up some bends and also
get a new screw from Bradley/Kershaw. That stupid BM Bluebox
is such a POS. Strips everything.

So the concept here is that the Kimura II only has one screw that
can be used for any clip. If a standard one was mounted it would
rotate. So what I did was make two wings that wrap around the
knife to stop any rotation. That combined with the pressure from
the screw keeps the clip very snug and immobile.

I have an easier design where the clip would make a 90 degree
bend over the end of the knife instead of the sides. The problem
with the wings is they have to be EXACT to work right and that is
hard to do with my minimal tools.

I may drill some holes once everything is final, but kind of looks
nice solid too.

Thanks to McAhron and P Moore (BF) for materials and lots of
advice along the way.

Well if the screw is in tight then the clip is very tight.
In fact the first time I put it in it was almost too tight.

Now that the screw is stripped I can't get it in all the
way so the clip is a bit loose.

I gotta figure out a way to get the screw out. I'm
hoping a better torx head will do the job. If not then
I'm kind of screwed.

Well, if not, you could always try to Ghetto-Macgyver it out with soemthing. I find pliers to usually do the trick. And if you can;t get a good grip with the pliers, I usually use a file to straighten/flatten two of the sides to get a better grip.

Could work if you're out of options

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

Really cool mod dude. I mentioned in my review of the K3 that I didn't see a way t mount a clip on it. I just needed to get a lil bit outside the box is all! I may have to do this, I really like the way it looks. As far as a stripped screw, I recommend getting a new, longer screw. They are button head torx cap screws. About 2-56 diameter-thread pitch. I'm not sure how long they are, but you just need one to take up the added thickness from the clip. The factory ones are black oxide finish, but they are going to be available in stainless as well as other finishes (nickel, blued, etc.)

Regardless, this is one of the coolest mods I've seen, looks almost factory. Please forward this to Bradley/Kershaw. They will have the peerfect balisong at that point.
Could be worse...I could be on the short bus with the other donut punchers.

Thanks beefy. Where do you recommend getting these? Is there somewhere
local you think that will have them like a hobby shop? McAhron is sending me
some but I am unsure of the size/length.

Filing down the sides is a good idea Silent Jay, didn't think of that. Thanks.

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

they are available at places like McMaster Carr via mail order, but they usually have a minimum order.

Knife kits sells screws too, but they are pricey. Fastenal has stand alone stores. I know you are in Jersey, so you could do a better search than me. http://www.fastenal.com/web/home.ex

They have several place in Jersey, so pick one and head over. Reasonable prices, and knowledgeable staff.

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

That is a very creative way to do a single screw pocket clip :TU:
If you clamp a piece of metal the same width as the handles onto the clip you could use it as a mold to form the sides. If just the screw head is stripped, use your dremel or hacksaw to cut a slot across the top of the screw and use a standard screwdriver to remove it.The screws I sent should be long enough to replace the screw. If the threads in the handle are stripped you will need to drill and tap the hole to the next larger screw size or use a press fit pivot like the ones for zen pins on a 42,and drill the stripped threads out to allow the press pivot to fit.

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

Pretty good job KZ! It is a nice addition to the Kimura. However, I would not do this to my knife, because there is a flaw in the design that would simply drive me insane (maybe not so much you guys). When you have an open balisong, the blade is supposed to be as strong as your hand; especially when you squeeze the open handles together. Makes balisongs a very tough knife. But in KZ's design, the clip hangs over the side where the safe handle may contact it. And I would cringe like a 5 year old girl.

As far as replacing that screw, just remove it and take it to a local hardware store. A place called ACE Hardware around here ALWAYS has little parts for my knives. Even found the flattened out barrels on chicago fasteners that Spyderco uses on the Spyderfly.

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

when the screw on my 42 became striped, i used a tork one size bigger than the original. you can also try hex wrenches.
i really like the clip on the kimura. how does it effect the flipping?

Re: Kimura II Pocket Clip

This problem may already be fixed but when working on RC helicopters when i had a stripped screw liek that you can stick the hexbit in it and super glue should hold enuff to back it out or my fav and really the easiest take a dremel and cut a slot in the top and take it out with a flat head screw driver :-)

*edited McAhron
sorry i didnt notice your post about the slotted head i totally agree though great minds think alike :-)

The handle makes no contact with the clip at all even if you squeeze the handle very hard.
But regardless, in my next design this won't even be a factor cause it will bend over the
end of the knife, not the sides.

Once I get the design exactly how I want it I do plan on making these in small batches. I hope
it'll catch the interest of some Kimura owners. They will be made with titanium and various designs.
