Just so you know...

It can be done. It has been done. You heard it here first.

I currently have a working Typhoon with bearings installed. It flips like, um... It flips like someone put bearings in it. :ugeek:

I was having trouble installing everything where it needed to be, but I've figured out a solution to that problem. It is not at all conventional, but anything I do rarely is.

And this is not IKBS.

When I figure out how to get it on camera. The bearings are scarcely visible.

Re: Just so you know...

Haven't figured that out yet. Should be anywhere between $150 and $200. Bearings for the masses.

Also, I can fit this bearing system into any sandwich style balisong without any permanent modifications, so I think I'm going to offer that as a service at $50, parts included.

Re: Just so you know...

I would so sell my 42 for a typhoon w/ bearings, or in that case, anything with bearings. I really dont like my typhoon (though it doesnt have any holes in it) its just a little weird, but I will flip the hell outta anything with bearings.
its better to have flipped and lost than never to have flipped at all

Re: Just so you know...

I really should've cleaned it better before taking pics, but who cares.

As I mentioned earlier, you can't really see the bearings in there. One thing you can see is the uniform gaps between the washers and handles/blade.

You should be able to see the reflections or shadows of the bearings in there.

Re: Just so you know...

Holy shit.

You did it!

 How's it flip man? Does IKBS have to watch their back now? Man...you should give us details on how you did it, if you feel comfortable with it anyways. I know I'M now gonna steal your plans. I still need to learn how to make them. All the math and shit is all I'm lacking. Got the tools and all. Heh.

Re: Just so you know...

IKBS does have one advantage over what I'm doing, and that's ease of assembly. They just use the old 'grease & dip' method. I can't - it lacks the precision required for this setup. It takes me a couple hours, very steady hands, and some peculiar tools to install these things.

I just noticed a strange bit of irony here. I'm performing surgery on a knife. :?

I sent a certain someone an email a few days ago. I really shouldn't say too much about it until I hear back from him. Or at least I should wait another few days anyways.

Uh-oh....I think I may have an idea of what you're talking about. :D

Man..the way I see it...the more effort and time put into a knife, any knife, the better.

I'm sure it flips like a dream!

Re: Just so you know...

Actually, Faulty already knows all about the theory and math that went into it. That's all pretty simple. Obvious, really.

It's in putting it all into practice where things get weird.
