Re: mtech twist upgrading question

IIRC, they're 4mm pivots, which would be .157"", so the 5/32" would be it.

FWIW the longer pivots kk carries are too long. filing or cutting them down won't do much either as the pivots aren't threaded all the way so you'd still have to tap them or the screws.

not worth the effort IMO

Re: mtech twist upgrading question

I just talked on the phone to knife kits 2 days ago about the exact pivots you are talking about. They stopped stocking the shorter pivots because they are not enough in demand. The guy told me that if I grinded the pivot to 8mm long, which is the length you would need for the twist, that there "should" still be enough bite for the screw to hold securely to the pivot. Not sure if I would chance it.
Maybe if more of us complain, they will stock the shorter pivot again! Hope this helps.

Re: mtech twist upgrading question

that's a shame they're no longer being carried considering they were the goto for ccc bali upgrades.

i just checked all the pivots i bought from kk and none of them save one were threaded all the way to the base. so to make them work you'd have to cut both the pivot as well as the screw. there's enough threads in the pivot once cut to length (approx 3-4 lines) to be secure but not enough to be tightened if that makes any sense. well unless you're willing to use the screw as a tap or never take it out ever again that is.

maybe they're supposed to be threaded all the way? i'll send them an email to confirm. otherwise there's no way to tighten them at all even if a handle were to fit flush with the pivot

pic of the pivot and screws handtight. none of the screws sit flush except one which is not in the pic

Re: mtech twist upgrading question

I just fired off an email to KK to request to bring back the shorter 5/32. Send the word around for others to do the same and they will stock them again! I need the same pivots!

Yikes. The 3/16" I always used in them were also too long, but threaded all the way through, so grinding them down wasn't a problem.

Tapping the pivots would probably be easier than boring blade to 3/16", but not by much. :(
